PBC Financial Policies
The Pittsburgh Baptist Church is fully funded by the free-will tithes and offerings of the people. We receive gifts from people who love the Lord and want to be a part of the wonderful work God is doing through His church. Giving is a partnership with God and His people to offer ministry, education, training, and an opportunity to share Christ with the world. All giving is voluntary on the part of individuals and the church. The giving spirit grows out of a personal relationship with Christ as Lord and our desire to minister in His name and share Christ with the world.
The congregation has a giving sharing attitude in voluntarily supporting missions from the neighborhood to the ends of the earth. Since the time this congregation was formed in 1959 she has supported The Cooperative Program of the Southern Baptist Convention in helping to provide for 5,510 international missionaries in about 150 + countries of the world and over 5,204 missionaries in the US. She has supported the local Southwest Association of Baptists, The PA/SJ State Convention, and The Southern Baptist Convention with her offerings. Besides this she supports numerous other mission projects with extra offerings beyond the budget.
Preparation and Management of Budget
An annual budget is prepared with the guidance of the Stewardship Committee and the assistance of department heads, staff, and committee chairmen. The budget is made available for input and discussion from the members and then voted on by the congregation.
An orderly accounting system is conducted weekly by tellers as offerings are received. The entire system of receiving and recording gifts is strictly confidential. All offerings are recorded by the financial secretary and quarterly statements are given to all those contributing. Envelopes are provided for everyone to help assure proper accounting. The church treasurer presents a full reporting of the finances at each monthly business meeting.
Spending of funds is guided by the budget plan and the monies available. We conduct God’s business as a Christian family and are open to questions and suggestions from the congregation.
It is our desire to receive, manage, and spend all gifts in a way that honors God, builds his kingdom, and provides the congregation an opportunity to be world-wide partners on mission for Christ.
